چکیده

Background: Intracapsular fractures of neck femur have always presented a great challenge to orthopaedics surgeons and remain in many ways the unsolved fracture as far as treatment and results are concerned. Methods: Cases included in this study are transcervical and subcapital fracture neck femur in patients less than 60 yrs of age managed in Sir JJ Hospital, Mumbai -08. Results: Fracture type, anatomical reduction and proper implant selection are the most important factor affecting the outcome of management of fracture neck femur whereas age, time interval, method of reduction, and capsulotomy play a less important role. Conclusion: Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) is a better implant in management of most of the cases of fracture neck femur. High subcapital fractures are an exception to this rule.

To derotate or not? The impact of a permanent derotation screw on the revision rate of dynamic hip screw fixation for

In this retrospective study, we examine the impact that Background employing a permanent derotation screw (DRS) has on the rate of revision for 2-hole dynamic hip screws (DHS, a.k.a. sliding hip screws), used for internal fixation of intracapsular neck of femur (NOF) fractures. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to examine the impact of using a derotation screw on DHS revision rate....

Comparative study of multiple cancellous screws versus sliding hip screws in femoral neck fractures of young adults

PURPOSE Both cannulated cancellous screw (CCS) and sliding hip screw (SHS) are used in femoral neck fracture fixations, but which is superior is yet to be determined. This study was aimed to compare the clinicoradiological outcome of femoral neck fracture treated with SHS or CCS in young adults. METHODS Adults (16e60 years) with femoral neck fracture were divided into Group 1 fixed with SHS a...

Comparative results of percutaneous cannulated screws, dynamic compression type plate and screw for the treatment of femoral neck fractures.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare the period of union, functional outcomes and complications of patients with femoral neck fracture treated with percutaneous cannulated screws versus dynamic hip screw (DHS). METHODS Sixty-six patients with femoral neck fracture were treated with percutaneous cannulated screws (n=33) or with DHS (n=33) between August 1999 and October 2003. Fu...

Letter to the Editor: Cannulated versus non-cannulated cancellous screw fixation for femoral neck fractures: a synthetic bone biomechanical study.

PURPOSE To compare the compressive strength of cannulated versus non-cannulated cancellous screws for undisplaced femoral neck fractures in synthetic bones. METHODS 18 synthetic proximal femurs simulating an AO B1 valgus impacted femoral neck fracture in osteoporotic bone were used. The fracture angles were between 55º and 63º (Pauwels grade 2). Fixation was made using 6.5-mm non-cannulated s...
